If you are facing a difficult struggle in your life and really need God’s blessing in that area, here is a word of encouragement I received from reading 2 Chronicles chapter 20. Jehoshaphat, King of Judah, got word that 3 different large armies had declared war on them and were marching towards Jerusalem. They were gravely distraught. So, Jehoshaphat and the people of Jerusalem prayed and cried out to God to save them. Then God spoke through one man who prophesied that the battle belongs to the Lord and to not be afraid; He said that God’s message is that we won’t have to even fight but God still wants us to march out to battle. The interesting turn of events is that as they marched out to battle, King Jehoshaphat sent out singers ahead of the warriors to start worshiping and singing to God and praising him. Then God caused the enemies to turn their weapons on each other and the battle was won without the people of Judah even having to fight, as God had promised. Those armies destroyed one another and left so many valuables on the battlefield that it took 3 days for the people to carry it all home. They named the battlefield “Valley of Blessing.”

We can all use a “Valley of Blessing” in our lives, right? It starts with prayer and trust in the Lord. The enemy wants us to worry, not worship; to feel fear and anxiety, not the love and peace of God; to be busy fighting in our own strength rather than being delivered by God’s strength. The next time I’m gripped with worry, doubt and fear I hope to remember this story and instead convert those negative thoughts over to the positive worship, thanks and praise of our Almighty God!

That is easier said than done. I know that when facing the trials of life it is very hard to put this into practice but exercising faith and trust in the Lord takes practice, one trial at a time. Even if we have no army and no singers to go out before us, and even if we are totally alone, God has a way! He is Jehovah Jireh, the Lord our provider. In his wondrous ways, he will provide the strength and an army of worshiping singers out of nothing but nature if only we’d march out in confidence. Isaiah 55:12 says, “For you will go out with joy and be led forth in peace; The mountains and the hills will burst into singing before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.” We can count on the promises of God because they will never fail. Luke 1:37 in most Bible versions says, “Nothing is impossible with God.” Slightly different is the NIV translation which says, “No word from God will ever fail.” I love that! David was against Goliath all alone, but he marched out with the confidence of God’s deliverance. God is also our deliverer, and through Christ we are more than conquerors, so who can stand against us? (Romans 8:31-37)

Pray this with me today… Lord, I trust in you and I trust in your Word. Psalm 84:11 says “You are my sun and my shield; You show me favor and honor and no good thing will you withhold from me if I’ll walk with you. Blessed is the one who trusts in you!” I know my Valley of Blessing has already been preordained by you so I shall go out with joy and peace today. I am an overcomer because of your son Jesus Christ. Put in my heart the desire to do what is pleasing to you and that I will be a blessing to others. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and guide my steps today, in Jesus Name, Amen!
